Knitting…getting started again.

knitting-getting-started-again

It’s been a while since I’ve knitted so I had to re-teach myself basically everything.  I used my little red book that Squirrel Girl (formerly known as the Steel City Knitter) told me to get, my video, and I asked some questions to my knitting friends on Facebook.  It wasn’t easy.  Once I got it I started working on my scarf.  It came with a kit I got from Jo-Ann’s online with a coupon probably a year ago.  I’ve never really gotten that far on it, but I worked and worked. I ripped things out and re-did them. I counted row after row.  Finally, I got garter stitch pattern 1 done.  The first time.  I have to repeat it twice more.  I haven’t gotten brave enough to do that.  And yes, Kit did “help”.  You can find the details on my project on Ravelry under Super Easy Scarf. Here are my photos:

I was rather proud of myself and posted it everywhere, but alas, I’ve not worked on it since.  I’ve been too tired (hey, you try working 12 and a half hour days and then come home and knit at 3:30 am!), too busy (party and shopping and party and unpacking), or it’s been too hot (with the ac on up here it was 81 degrees!).  I’ll get back to it because I have a goal.  I want to knit socks.

Mom gave me some help in that direction.  I was talking about knitting socks and she knew that I would need some double pointed needles (dpn).  She said she had some, dug them out of her sewing basket, and gave them to me.  They are bone dpns that my great-grandmother used way back when.  Wow!  I don’t remember what size they are and I just packed them away in my knitting bag.  I can’t wait to find a pattern and yarn so I can use them.  After I finish my scarf. *sigh*

Today is going to be a good day

today-is-going-to-be-a-good-day

Good morning. I mean, good afternoon. I get to go out and see someone toay. I am so looking forward to it, even if I don’t think I can remember how to do the sling shot cast on. *sigh* I should remember to take my knitting bag, even if I’m not knitting anything currently. That’s right – there’s nothing on the needles. I kept getting frustrated by the cast on for the scarf so I, as the Steel City Knitter would say, put it in time out. I couldn’t for the life of me cast on 28 stitches. Somebody should have shot me. lol.

Well, I better stop blogging and better start going. She’s a wait in’ on me. When she’s not taking apart the dishwasher, that is.

Knit, purl, knit, purl

I started a new knitting project today. Its another bookmark. I’m hoping that this one will turn out better than my last one. I started it with a bunch of rows of garter stitch so that it would lie flat. I’m working on the stockingnette stitch part of it. Its only eight stitches wide, so it should go fairly quickly. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to make it long enough for a hard back book or a paper back. I know a paper back book length would work in a hard back, but not the other way around. Luckily, I ‘ve got a bunch of paper backs to measure with! I’m using my bamboo size 5 needles and no, I didn’t do a swatch. Gauge doesn’t really matter on a book mark, IMHO. I’m still using the skein of red wool yarn that the Steel City Knitter gifted me with (thank you!). I do have one other skein of yarn – a soft, purple one – but I’m not sure what I’m going to be doing with that. I’ve been looking at yarns, patterns, books, etc. I have a goal – I want to knit socks. I’m not sure when I’ll get to something like that, but hopefully it won’t be too long. I’m looking forward to it. A lot. It’s nice to have a goal for a change. Not to mention that its one that I can see myself doing. According to the SCK, it goes scarf, hat, and then socks. :) Happy Krissy. I can’t wait!

What time is it?

The power went out today. I was in the middle of an (im) conversation with Knitting Mama when it went off. I hate it when the power goes off. I have to reset all of the clocks (except three!). I can’t see any clocks from the kitchen so I’m never quite sure if the time is correct. Tom told me what time he has, but I haven’t a clue if that’s right or not. *sigh* I wish all my clocks had atomic time resetting. It would make life much easier.

I did some knitting today. Yippee!! I had problems. I dropped a stitch (I think) and I pulled it all out. I had to figure out how to do a slip knot (which I did and think I will now know how to do from now on) and after a bunch of tries I managed to cast on and knit a row. On my new needles. I don’t know if I like them as much. The yarn doesn’t slip off of them as much (at all) but then again the yarn doesn’t easily slip off of them. LOL. But I have a ton of yarn (okay, so maybe not a ton, but a bunch) to go through since I ripped it all out. So I’ll be working on it for the foreseeable future. But if I manage to do it well, I’ll be happy. I’m still practicing. Knitting Mama signed me up on a site and I need to get the password so I can use it. She’s also the one who gave me the links that got me started on knitting again. Although I now know that the Steel City Knitter has helpful links on her blog. The things you learn too late. LOL.
